Austrian automotive supplier the Polytec Group is investing €10m in a new parts production plant in South Africa to supply to a “well-know, premium class” German OEM.

The company said on 27 Nov that it had recently been awarded an 8-year delivery contract by the OEM for the supply of complete vehicle underbody covers and other automotive components and was therefore building the new plant in south-eastern coast of South Africa.

Four differing plastics production technologies from the composites and injection moulding areas are to be employed at the new location, to meet demands regarding weight optimisation, tensile strength, temperature resistance, aerodynamics and acoustics.

Production start-up is scheduled for 2021 at the plant.

“This step reflects the systematic pursuit of the Polytec strategy of supporting our key accounts with production facilities in growth regions,” said Markus Huemer, who at the beginning of 2019 will assume the post of Polytec Holding AG CEO from his father Friedrich.

Founded in 1986, the Polytec Group develops and manufactures of plastic components and systems with 28 locations and some 4,500 employees worldwide.
