Engel opens Vietnam subsidiary

Engel has two injection moulding press plants in China and one plant in South Korea, so it is well placed to serve Vietnam

Engel Austria has opened a new sales and service subsidiary in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, in a bid to raise its profile market in southeast Asia.

The injection moulding machine and system supplier announced that the move was in response to growing demand for its products by the international entertainment electronics industry in Vietnam.

“The Vietnamese market has grown strongly over the last few years and indications point to continuing above-average dynamics for the future,” said Engel’s chief of sales Christoph Steger.

Steger confirmed the move at Fakuma 2015 in Friedrichshafen. At the show, Steger said Engel already has four service technicians in Vietnam — two each in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. But the company needs to open a larger sales and service centre that is 100% Engel-owned, he said.

Some plastics-intensive businesses are shifting work from China to Vietnam. Samsung, the Korean electronics conglomerate, is setting up a factory for printers in Ho Chi Minh City. Samsung already makes mobile phones in Hanoi.
